Persephone

Cupped in her reluctant palm,
I was sweet temptation.
my skin peeled back and bared,
my red pearls, like teeth

that she refused to put to hers.
while all flesh but ours was withering,
the land above, a clean plain made still
by a mother’s lost babe.

hunger was my lady’s empty knot
‘til my six seeds plucked,
and my pockets still full,
I was cast, and
left to rot.
